Aggressiveness means placing some bets or raises when needed and not just calling or checking.

Being aggressive in poker most of the time open a lot of doors for you. Let me be clear that being aggressive does not mean that you bet on every chance that you have or play every card that you are given.

It is knowing when to be aggressive that is important. You should know when you got the advantage so you can bet or raise. Aggression is very useful when you are able to keep your cool and focus so you can pick the best spots where you can push in more chips to the table and win.

When you play aggressive in the right way, you will end up winning more money, improving your fold equity, and pushing your opponents against the wall by giving them bad odds.

You can also use your aggressiveness to jockey for an ideal position. This means that you can force other opponents who will be moving after you out of the hand so you can gain some advantage in position.

You will also be able to get some free cards when you play with some aggression. You will appear to others as a loose player so you can adapt a strategy to take advantage of their perception of your kind of play. In the long haul, your opponents will give you less credit for the cards that you have. They will have the tendency to call your move since they think you are just bluffing with a weak hand.

Poker is type of a card game. It differs in many aspects like dealing of the cards, whether high or low hand wins the pot, limits on bets and the number of rounds of bets allowed. The game goes as follows:

The first round begins with a forced bet.

Then the game proceeds left.

Each player in turn must either match the maximum previous bet or fold.

The player that matches the bet may also increase the bet (i.e. raising)

The betting round ends when all the players have either matched the last bet or folded.

If all but one player fold on any round then the remaining player collects the pot, without showing his hand.

If more than one player remains after the last betting round, the hands are shown and the winning hand takes the pot.

However, it should be noted that poker is different from gambling games. The money in the pot is voluntarily placed by the players who rationally believe that the bet will have a positive expected value.

Poker has many variations in terms of card dealings and betting.

Straight: A complete hand is dealt to each player, and player bet in one round. Raising and re-raising is allowed.

Stud: A prearranged combination of cards is dealt to each player of face down and face up rounds, followed by a round of betting. Like ‘seven card stud’.

Draw: A complete hand is dealt to each player, face down and after the bets, players can discard unwanted cards and deal in new ones. Like the ‘five card draw’.

Community: The players are dealt an incomplete hand of cards, face down, and community cards face up are dealt to the center of the table. Like ‘Texas hold-em’.

The house dealer handles the cards for each hand in a casino. And a token called a ‘dealer button’ is rotated between the players clockwise so as to determine the order of betting. Forced bets are made by one or more players. The cards are then shuffled by the dealer and the person sitting on his right cuts it. The dealer deals the cards to all players starting from the left. Cards can be face up or face down. Then the betting rounds start. All bets are collected in a central pot after every round. The main feature of poker is bluffing. When one player bets and the other players do not match and instead fold, then the hand ends. If at the end of last betting round there is more than one player left then there is a showdown, in which the players reveal their previously hidden cards and assess their hands.

The popularity of the game is on an increase. The popularity was sparked at the start of the 21st century due to the introduction of poker available online. Also various poker tournaments and their worldwide coverage have created a pool of poker fans and spectators.
